CST in the Local Lime Light at QME 2010

Control Systems recently attended the Queensland Mining & Engineering Expo 2010 in Mackay. The stand saw regular traffic with both familar faces and new ones dropping in to talk about the equipment and future job prospects. The Daily mercury did a half page spread on the stand, no doubt due to the impressive display conveyor which is a minature working conveyor with a full four loadcell beltweigher running with in it.

The Most Trade Certified Belt Weighers in the World

What is a Trade Certified Belt Weigher?

A trade certified belt weigher is recognised as ‘Legal for Trade Purposes’ by the government which has jurisdiction where the belt weigher is used.  Before a belt weigher can be ‘Trade Certified’ it must be first ‘Pattern Approved’ or ‘Type Approved’ by the relevant government authority, this Type or Pattern approval is granted as a result of the testing of a Representative Sample of the weighing system by a recognised laboratory, usually a government run facility.

Measured Steps to Belt HEAVY WEIGHT

With a reputation for quality belt weighers, Control Systems Technology Pty Ltd (CST) is leading the world in accuracy.

Written by Lynelle Johnson & Produced by Brandon Bloch

Belt weighers, used predominantly in the mining and grain industries have a reputation for unreliability. As result, old and inaccurate art of ship’s draft surveys are still used to determine cargo loads and subsequent pricing.

Control Systems Technology Pty Ltd (CST) hopes to change this by leading the world in more accurate belt weighers. Their goal is to become the world standard weighing system provider in the international trade of bulk materials.

Due to its growing reputation, the company is looking to expand it’s international markets beyond Australia. With a substantial installed base in coal fired power stations in Korea, CST is now specifically focusing on the same area in the US market, and looking for contracts to install belt weighers in coal fired power stations.

Accuracy Claims for Belt Weighers

There is a tendency for those who have purchased a 0.5% accurate instrument, to simply believe that the device could not have an error worse than 0.5%. The answers that come from it seem to have an unearthly authority and users seem to believe that the device will always tell the truth except perhaps on a bad day when it might have an error of as much as 0.5%.

Calibration Methods

Simulation of Live Load for (Belt Weigher) Calibration.

There is debate over the best method of simulating live load, and many people strong views on this matter. In general order of perceived increasing quality, methods of simulating live load are:

  1. Electronic simulation
  2. Static mass applied on the weigh frame under the belt
  3. Rolling or dragging mass on the conveyor belt over the weigh frame
  4. Live slugs of material which are themselves weighed on other static weighing systems such as bins or weigh bridges

On a good weigh frame, any of these live load simulation methods will give good results. On an inadequate weigh frame; even the best methods of live load simulation will not save the situation.

Our New Factory

CST has moved to new, larger premesis.

Control Systems Technology has manufactured out of premises in Lorraine Street, Peakhurst for the last 15 years.

However thanks to the recent and continued high level of activity in the industry we have had to expand our manufacturing facilities to keep up with demand.

We have moved literally 500 metres around the corner to our new factory at 37 Stanley Street, Peakhurst.

Our new premises have given us more room in our factory, and also significantly expanded our administration area.

Part of the office area will be used to house our new Belt Weigher Service Technician Training facility. Even the best quality equipment will be unable to fulfill its potential if not properly serviced and maintained. The CST Technician Training Programme will provide our service team with specific knowledge and hands on learning to accredit our team to perform all belt weigher service work, on all makes, from routine maintenance through to sophisticated troubleshooting skills.

A course has already been run for belt weigher service technicians employed by our service partner in Korea, Hana Evertech Co. Ltd.

Finding a Reliable Way of Valuing a Stockpile

"Equipment suppliers are often frustrated by clients who place price above all else. One such supplier, Ian Burrell of Control Systems Technology, submitted this commentary to stress the importance of looking at price in the context of overall performance. His comment is echoed increasingly these days by suppliers of all equipment - not merely belt weighers. Hopefully this comments will get through to those equipment purchases who put short term gain above long term performance"
